You know that feeling when you're absolutely parched? On a Hot Summers day or after a hard days work and just seeing or imagining a nice cool pint makes you drool with excitement?
Now Imagine feeling that way, but you still can't drink?? No matter how much you try to convince yourself it's ok to you just can't, your mind is convinced if you do drink, in that moment, something really bad is going to happen to you next year?? Not because of the drink, just a illogical Superstitious thought that somehow drinking right now will cause this to happen??
You could try to drink still, place a drink in front of you, smell it, maybe bring it very close to your lips, as you do you can feel the anxiety building up inside of you, that sense of impending doom, that feeling we all have when we are doing something that scares us.
"Why is my body producing these physical symptoms if they are illogical and untrue?" Is what i am thinking, i have to put the drink down, i might get as far as putting a small sip in my mouth, the anxiety rockets to the brink of a anxiety attack, feeling scared, depressed, cold sweats, so you have to spit it out. So i can't drink that day, a weird mix of relief, because i feel safe doing what my OCD says of me and NOT DRINKING right now, and a mix of anger, frustration, jealousy, giving into my OCD when there's apart of me that knows i don't need to, and you tortured by seeing someone having that nice cold pint in person or on the TV.
Now comes the vicious cycle
Dehydration can impact your mental health is by causing fatigue, i know that feeling, heavy legs, feeling weak, dizzy spells when you stand up, along with that dry mouth, It's a horrible feeling, only increases that desire for a lovely cool pint, but because of the dehydration, your mind is affected, Essentially, what’s occurring is that the neurotransmitters, the chemicals in the brain, are probably going off balance. When chemicals in the brain go off balance, it will cause difficulties in what the brain does. And what the brain does is, it helps us with our mood, so our mood is set off. The brain helps us keep our anxiety under control so [during heat] people have difficulties with anxiety. Increasing my OCD symptoms, only increasing that desire to control my eating or drinking, And so the cycle continues until you get to the point where you begin to realise something bad's going to happen to you this year not next year if you don't drink, a general agreement is you can last 3 to 4 days without drinking, by now however this is Severe dehydration is serious and requires medical intervention to prevent damage to your kidneys or liver. Severe dehydration can also cause kidney stones to form and can damage muscle and create cholesterol problems.
Just drinking water will not help at this stage as it has gone beyond the point where you can rehydrate without medical help.
Seek medical advice immediately if you exhibit any of the following symptoms:
Severe diarrhoea
Inability to produce tears
Vomiting or a fever
Bloody or black stool
Moderate diarrhoea for more than 24 hours
Inability to keep down fluids
Irritability
Feeling disoriented
Sunken, dry eyes
A weak pulse
Fits (seizures)
Low blood pressure (hypotension)
Dry skin that sags slowly into position when pinched up
Inability to pass urine for eight hours
A low level of consciousness
It's terrifying and confusing that a Mental Illness that is supposedly stopping bad things from happening can sometimes drive you close to the point of something bad happening, its like a bully that controls and tortures you to the edge, allowing you a brief rest bite at the last minute.
