A spike, is a term used to describe when someone with a long term mental or physical illness suddenly has a big increase in there symptoms for seemingly no reason at all how long this lasts can vary.

So what does a spike feel like? Atleast in terms for a OCD sufferer like me? Well for me, 'and of course this depends on the condition you suffer with' i feel pretty useless and unable to do almost anything and make any decisions for myself.

Almost every simple movement i make will involve a ritual, because if i don't something awful will happen to me or someone i love, and i do mean simple movements from walking, picking things up, everything has to feel just right or i will have to repeat it until it feels so and if that means walking up and down the path in my Garden until it feels right then so be it, if that means opening and closing a door or turning a light on and off until it feels right then so be it.

It is a very stressful and tireing thing, and you can't just ignore it, a simple decision about what to have for dinner or if to go out to my friends turns into along 5 minute decision even a simple drive has to turn in to a long drive as i have to take the longest route not the simple route.

I think it is important to highlight how much of a physical effect mental illnesses can have on people just like a spike in a physical illness can especially during a spike
