So a post popped up on my facebook timeline yesterday relating to Khloe Kardashian and her OCD
"Ooooo interesting" i think to myself i am always interested in others OCD stories especially if it is a celebrity or someone atleast in the limelight, so i read this article and quite a few more..Now this is where i start to get uneasy.
"Khloe Kardashian has always been open about her OCD" The article starts with, followed by
And ahead of her family trip to Armenia, the reality star shared a picture of dozens of neatly labelled plastic bags containing her vitamins.
"OCD hits hard when I travel! Vitamin party!!!!" she wrote next to the Instagram shot.
What you would see is a stack of clear seethrough plastic bags with neatly alligned labels on them all full of vitamin pills. Nothing to drastic you at first but then i come across this quote from Khloe
A perfectly set dining table and her meticulously placed cookie jars, she wrote: "A sneak peak of my craziness today I know you see my OCD in high gear when you look at my cookie jars. I have a problem... I know... but I like everything neat and in its place. This kind of stuff makes me SO happy!!
Now very very rarely would i say anyone would describe there OCD rituals they need to do as making them "Happy" at the end of it, a huge weight off there shoulders but not happy, here is the video of Khloe's cookie jar dilemma.
The segment, aptly titled KHLO-C-D, shows her fiercely building stacks (on stacks on stacks) of perfectly aligned double-stuffed Oreos inside the massive 2-gallon glass cookie jars that reside on her kitchen counters.
‘I love them, but I’m also crazy,’ she says, ‘but I love to know that the rest of the world is as crazy and organized-obsessed as I am.’
‘You say O.C.D. is a disease, but I say it’s a blessing,’ she adds.
Hhhmmmmmm now no OCD sufferer i know would describe OCD as a "Blessing" either infact quite the opposite.
There is a fineline between perfectionism and certain forms of OCD, maybe Khloe genuinally does suffer huge anxiety and feels she can not get on with her day unless these cookies are perfectly aligned so in this case fair enough but the video does not imply this at all, all very lighthearted as sadly most of these supposed OCD videos are in social media.
The problem is alot of people will look upto Khloe and stand by everything she says, so if she says this is OCD then IT IS OCD and this is where one of the major issues of fighting stigma with OCD lies.
I hope people in the spotlight like Khloe are fully aware of the impact there words in these cases may have, maybe this is a form of OCD for Khloe i don't know what goes through her mind, but being a perfectionist can sometimes cause distress aswell but this can make some use the term lightly "I am so OCD" So when you do please think of the 1 in 100 in the UK and Millions others who struggle with this illness everyday, the ones who can't eat, can't sleep, can't socalise, can't work, can't do the things they love because this monster in there mind tells them something really horrible will happen to them or someone they love.
Because if you did have to experience how real OCD is then you would see your perfectionism really would be a blessing and i do hope if Khloe is really OCD she uses it as a platform to make people see the much more serious forms of OCD there is
