Depressed? Just make a effort and get over it
Anxiety? Just get out there and do it
OCD? Just ignore the thoughts
Most people with Mental Health problems has had one of these ignorant comments thrown at them right? So though it may seem a simple answer as to why we can't just "get over it" i am going to tell non sufferers why you and i can't.
Migraine? Just ignore it
Anxious because someone's about to attack you? Just ignore the thoughts
On your period? Just make a effort and get over it
Now if anyone gave these responses to someone suffering from the above, well you would be called a idiot for giving such idiotic advice right?
Well the same goes for Mental Health, it is caused by a malfunction or illness in your brain which out of your control causes you to be Bipolar, Chronically Depressed or suffer from OCD. Thats right a ILLNESS the same as a physical illness sure maybe we can still walk and run, mind you even then some Mental illnesses will stop you from doing that.
But even then imagine the feeling of being powerless to control your own thoughts and feelings? The same way how it must be for a physically disabled person to be powerless to control when and how far they can walk or grip. Because trust me thats the way it is without medication and therapy.
People need to realise this and not be so ignorant about Mental Illness none of this is through choice the problem is it is alot harder to get someone to imagine what mental pain is like unlike physical pain.
