I get intrusive sexual thoughts and thoughts of harming children, my partner, someone of the opposite sex in general and i am scared i may act out on these thoughts.....

Apart from a fellow OCD sufferer or someone very knowledgable in OCD how do you think such a comment would go down? Not very well i imagine, infact anyone with this form of OCD wouldn't even bare to consider bringing up the subject.

Sadly however this is a form of OCD that is quite common but due to the nature of it many do not speak out about it, How can you possibly have such thoughts without it meaning something? Would be the common opinion to someone who does not understand the condition

There are some idiots out there who would over react and immediatley judge you as a Pedophile, psycho, rapist imagine the fear of possibly being judged in such away? especially regarding your own children if such a thoughts are regarding your own children....Fearing going near your Child because of thoughts of hurting them sexually or other forms of physical abuse.

Would social services understand the condition enough? All sorts of massive fears that come with such a illness so many sufferers of this OCD will suffer in silence

Fact is with OCD, intrusive thoughts are based around are biggest fears not desires, difference being these thoughts create a reaction of no pleasure what so ever but immediate Anxiety, depression, guilt or fear.

The need to punish yourself somehow in more severe cases, or ritualise over long periods to make the thoughts go away. Even avoiding certain situations which they fear may trigger the thoughts leading to isolation from other members of the public.

So if you fear these thoughts surely you must know there not true and not worry about it? Would be another common reaction to people who don't understand the condition.

Well OCD is a condition of the Brain and sadly with alot of OCD sufferers it has alot of power over how a OCD sufferer reacts

Sexual or Harm OCD sufferers do not see it as "If you know there not true why worry about it"

They see it as

"Why am i getting these thoughts? there must be a reason, SHIT what if it means i will act on these thoughts? SHIT what a horrible sick person i am, SHIT my family and friends will hate me forever, SHIT i better just do my rituals to make this go away rather than opening up about it to anyone"

Funny thing is people who understand the condition often say they would trust these OCD sufferers more than anyone because they are so sensitive and commited to the idea of NOT hurting others.

This form of OCD is one of the highest that needs to be recognised and understood more due to how isolated it can make a person feel.

Nobody should have to cope with any mental illness alone
