Stigma and why it's so hard to open up

Any OCD sufferer especially people with the less common forms of OCD are well aware of the Stigma surrounding it and how hard it can be to come out.

Look around and 90% if not more will refer to OCD as something relating to the need to have things just so, obsessive cleaning and washing etc, then of course people who always say "I am so OCD" because they are a little fussy with there washing or something.

This to me only adds to the Stigma as it makes OCD come across as silly, like if someone says "I am so Vein" because they like to look perfect when they dress up etc, so imagine how hard it must be for Superstitious OCD and Pure OCD sufferers in coming out to people not so well educated on the subject due to the Stigma.

I can't even imagine telling some of my friends who ask "Why have you left that piece of bread on your plate" for me to say "Well my head is telling me if i eat that bit something really horrible is going to happen"

The only reason i would find it hard is because most people would never associate that with OCD and until the Stigma arround it is lifted slightly that sort of attitude will continue OCD in some cases needs to be treated by non sufferers more like Bi polar and similar mental illnesses in my opinion
